Fished with Mr Chris 9/25/25. It was cloudy, rainy and got a bit chilly at times. With all that we still had a great time and caught plenty of bass. I have fished with Jim for several years now and have been absolutely blown away each time. I have always caught fish, even in the worst conditions, and have never felt let down at all. Even when the wind chill is single digits and waves are white capping he provides the best service possible and yes I have fished with him multiple times like this. (It is actually pleasant as there will only be one or two other boats on the lake)I most recently went fishing late February 2018 due to a cancelation he had (last minute). Boy did I pick a good time. I scheduled 2 consecutive days and the fishing was so great we spent 23 hours on the water in these two days. My family sent messages thinking I was injured or lost we were gone so much. 50+ keepers, several large bass over 5 pounds, many 4 pounders, and got to the point that I was calling 3 pounders babies! Once again, and for several years now, I left a deposit for my next trip that isn't even planned yet. I know when I get ready it will be worth it! I can't schedule dates far out so I leave a deposit on hand for when he has a cancellation that fits my time frame.

I fished with Jim on 7/25. We quickly went over the gear and launched the boat at daylight. We made a fast trip across the lake and started fishing deep grass. Within 10 minutes I had caught a 5lb7oz bass and we continued throughout the morning (4 hour trip) to catch 15 total with top five being 22lb5oz. These were by far the largest bass I had ever caught, using reels that were foreign to me, and in the heat of the summer! What more could I have asked for! I can't wait to schedule another trip in March when he said the fish would actually be biting!

Captain Jim is a professional! I contacted him to arrange for a group of 5 to fish at the Big G! I selected the “Roughing It” trip and he took care of the rest! He arranged for us to stay in cabins across the street from the boat launching area. The cabins were clean and comfortable. We arrived at the cabin late the night before we were to fish not knowing what to expect the next morning.
Captain Jim was there the next morning as scheduled at 5:15am with two other guides and their fully equipped bass boats and fishing gear and away we went. The next eight hours were filled with an amazing life experience that none of us will forget.
My fear of bringing 4 guests from out of town and not catching any fish was soon nullified. Within 15 minutes of launching we (Cpt Jim and I) had caught 3 fish and we had reports that the other boats were also having luck! I was introduced to Belle, Capt. Jim’s fishing partner who was bringing us all luck. She would give each fish we caught “sugar” (a little lick) before throwing them back, and then she’d curl up in the bottom of the boat to prevent getting a treble hook embedded in her doggie hide.
Capt. Jim knows the lake well, not only for fish, but also for the other wild life that inhabit the area. As we were cruising to the next hot fishing hole, an American bald eagle flew about 30 feet above our heads, undoubtedly looking for morning breakfast. What a beautiful site!
We cruised to five or six different holes trying to catch the big ones we could see on the fish finder. Capt Jim checked all his resources to find the fish. He checked how much water was being released through the dam up river. Knowing this, would most certainly affect the fishing. Capt Jim adjusted how we fished...depths, types of bait, and retrieval methods, to entice the fish to bite.
We all met at the end of our eight hours and shared our fishing experiences. In all we had caught between 80 to 100 fish. If you’re looking for a great fishing experience, give Capt. Jim a call! He’s one of the best!

Went out yesterday with Cap. Jim. Very impressed. I was hesitant to pay for any guide thinking there would be alot of small fish. I was wrong. Great balance of numbers, quality, and different ways to catch them. Our best 5 was rocking 24-25 pounds. Very respectable this time of year. Will definitely book again!

First spot landed a 7 pound fish I"m going to start out by thanking my girlfriend (Angela) for booking this trip for me. Captain Jim was very accommodating with her and took his time to explain the different packages he has to offer. She had no clue as to what to choose for me, but Captain Jim took his time with her and came up with a great option. I had originally planned to bring my son with me, but at the last minutes he could not go, so my brother was the lucky go to person. Captain Jim took care of making the hotel reservation and also provided us with a great BBQ lunch. Our day of fishing started bright and early 6:15 am. Jim was already waiting for us with the boat already in the water. We launched off and went to the first spot. We were provided with all the equipment needed to go fishing (rods, reels) on a new Triton boat. Everything was top notch! First spot landed a 7 pound fish... WOW! I don't see those in the lake I fish. We quickly moved on fishing several different spots throughout the day. Fishing was a challenge that day due to the high winds, But that didn't phase Captain Jim. He is a true professional. He just pushed on locating the fish. Spring break and we booked a 6 hour trip with captain Jim. It was a once in a lifetime day. My 16 and 12 year old sons put together a 30 lb bag. With a 9, 8, 5, 4 & 4 lb fish. At least 15 fish caught in 6 hours. Professional and knowledgeable.

Well, let me start with my first meeting with Capt Jim. I was paired up with him in a BFL bass tour as a co angular. As most competitive, co angular bass fisherman know. Your success really is in the hands of the pro angular and how he helps or prevents you from catching fish. Capt Jim was a true professional! He gave me lures to try and gave me a fair shot at the same fish he was trying to catch. The experience was so good that I had to fish with him again on his home turf. My experience was even better this time. He put me on the fish, gave me advise, and made it absolutely perfect. Except for the 10lb plus bass that came unbuttoned which was more disheartening for him it seemed. I had so much fun that even that couldn't ruin my trip. I highly recommend that you book a trip asap! Once more people find out how good he really is, good luck finding a day with his full schedule. Capt Jim, will you be able to fish at night? Lol

I want to start by saying I am a weekend angler. When I am not fishing tournaments, I am usually practicing for them. I work a full time job so it is very important to maximize my time on the water. My fishing partner and I reached out to Jim and didn't know what to expect since this was our first guide trip. It was one of the best days we have ever had on the water. We fished out of a brand new Legend boat, loaded out with power poles, new electronics, and top of the line rod and reels. It was like we had another friend in the boat, a friend that knew where the big bass lived. He doesn't just point and tell you where to throw, he teaches what you throwing at and why they are there. I recommend Jim and his guides to anyone and we will be going again soon. I feel like we didn't just meet a dependable guide but a new friend.

We really appreciate Captain Shane for the guide. He was very knowledgeable. Had a lot of enjoyable stories. Kind, and most definitely friendly. We def recommend him and most likely will return!!

My 7 year old son and I had an excellent fishing trip with Captain Jim. He was determined to find the bass and help my son land “the big one”. We can’t wait to do it again!

Round 2 - Our first trip with Captain Jim was supposed to be 3 generations (my father, myself and my son) on the water catching fish. Unfortunately, as we were getting ready to launch we got a call that my Grandmother had passed so my father had to forego the trip to attend to the details. My son Jacob and I decided to carry on with the understanding we would make the trip again with all three generations. We had a blast and Captain Jim made a new friend in Jacob (my 7yr old). Fast forward 6 weeks and we had the chance to give it another go. Once again, we had a blast. We caught fish, made memories and Captain Jim taught my son multiplications!

I'm glad I chose the one I did After looking around at all the different guides I'm glad I chose the one I did! Guntersville is Soo large that it can be intimidating, but with Jim he makes it easy. He asked us ahead of time what we were wanting to accomplish and I'm pretty sure he had that covered in the first hour. Jim is not only a good guide, but he is a great guy. We had a tournament the next day and he called to check on us to see how we were doing. That phone call and his " little tip " helped keep one of our fish alive through the night that would have cost us points! Overall I would say if your looking for a guide for practice, learning, or just the best day of bass fishing you ever had.. Look no further. Call Jim! Oh and a special thanks to Belle for teaching me how to read electronics!

Writing this review right after getting home from the guided trip. Tough bite is the two words that describe the first few hours of the trip. 4lber first cast, a few more over the next 40 ish minutes, then the bite went away. Capt. Jim did everything he could to make sure we were back on the fish, and it worked. Caught a total of about 23 fish with a 5 fish bag of 22 lbs and some change. Kicker fish was 6.6. Jim is very knowledgeable and willing to help you whenever. He knows his stuff and is willing to share everything you need to know (unless you just browse his page looking for spots). If I had to come up with something negative it would’ve been out of his control any way and that would have been the wind. I say that, but even with the wind the fish were biting. Jim has a great attitude, good advice, good spots, good rods reels etc., good boat, and a good dog. Belle (the dog) did make a stage dive towards the end but it all turned out well. I had a fantastic time and will do my best to make it back with Jim someday hopefully soon!

Well, had another amazing trip out in the water with Jim and Belle. The bite started out good all you had to do was [CENSORED] the [CENSORED] and man the fish would slam it! That first bit we caught a 6.02 and a 4.somethin. Our bag went for probably 18.5 (correct me if I’m wrong). The bite did slow down after a while and we began having to throw [CENSORED] to get the fish to bite. Even when we went for a good while without fish Capt. Jim held stead fast and always did his best to put them in the boat. This having been my second trip out with him I feel I have gotten to know him rather well both as a guide and as a person. If you are on the fence, just jump right into it. He is always willing to take a call (Mr. Popular) and help you out. Great Duckett rods and reels and all other tackle to boot. This is one for the memory book as I had my grandmother along with me. She was (and bless her heart still is) clueless about fishing, but Capt. Jim he did everything he could to help her out and for that, we are both truly thankful. Thank you Capt. Jim and 1st mate Belle for making this trip another great one. Fished 2 days with Captain Jim and his his awesome assistant Lily. I had a great time!!! He is an enjoyable dude to be around and just have a conversation let alone he knows how to get you on fish! By far my best day ever on Guntersville. We boated well over 20 in an hour or so at one point. I was fortunate enough to get one over 6 and got to check a couple things off my bucket list. I would recommend Jim whenever you have a chance to go. I know I will be back, hopefully sooner than later.

Best day of fishing I’ve had on lake Guntersville hands down. Jim with Guntersville Bass Guides put us on some great spots for large mouth. This trip was originally planned for February but the weather had been bad the day before and the lake just wasn’t cooperating. Jim wanted his customers to have a great experience and rescheduled the trip for June 2nd. The wait was well worth it. Cant wait till next time! Fishing on Lake Guntersville can be challenging for an average angler like me, but fishing with Jim Leary has been the best experiences for me year after year. He really is the best guide to take a trip with any time of the year. Jim made our trips enjoyable and full of action with some big un's every time. We always end up with a big sack, and some good tips to use next time. He has the best equipment, and electronics, and more importantly knows how to use them. I came all the way from California to fish with GBG-they did not disappoint. Capt. Shane is very knowledgeable about bass fishing and knows the lake and the spots to find the fish. The weather was cold and raining but determined to catch a bass...and we did and what a beauty. Enjoyed the experience so much planning on coming back in a few months. Thank you Jim Leary!

An Unforgettable Day ! My wife booked an evening trip for me for my birthday on Lake Guntersville will Jim Leary. I had never been to G-Ville and did not know what to expect. After meeting Jim at the ramp and seeing some pictures from his morning trip, I was pumped. We took off and made it to our first and only spot and it was on. 25 + fish . We kept 15 of our biggest to weigh. The small 5 was around 17lbs. Our middle 5 was 25lbs and our biggest 5 was 35lbs. Wow ! Truly a trip of a lifetime. It was so good that i changed my plans and went back out the next morning, although the bite slowed down from a cold front, we still had our best 5 go 23lbs. G-Ville is definitely on right now.
As for Jim, you won't meet a nicer guy. He puts in work day after day to make sure his clients are satisfied. He's the type of guy that will make you feel right at home while away from home. I highly recommend Jim if your thinking about fishing G-Ville.

Went out with Captain Jeff for a 6 hr trip on Gville yesterday. Hands down the best day of fishing in our life. Jeff was awesome, very helpful, and very personable. We caught a lot of fish and a lot of big fish in a lot of different ways. Awesome first day of our honeymoon. Today was my first time ever doing a guided fish and it was AMAZING. Jeff was our guide and he could not have done a better job. He put us on the fish, made sure my line/worms etc. was ready at all times, had a back up pole for me and even let me borrow his Huk shirt to keep me from getting more fried! I highly recommend him to anyone ready to catch some fish!

03/2018. Third year coming back twice per year. Jim is one of the hardest working guides I know. He knows when I come to the BIG G, I'm looking for quality, not quantity!! He finds big fish, and he finds them quickly!!
I've told Jim on a number of occasions that if he needs a reference, have anyone contact me. I'm telling everyone, you won't be disappointed, from 1st time anglers, to fast action fishing, to hunt for big bass, Jim's got it all!!! Thank you Jim!! We will do it again tomorrow!!

Captain Jim put us on the fish early and often. My son had spent the summer on several tough fishing trips without much action. Had a great trip with Jim. He is a great angler and good guy. From first timers to seasoned angler's you will learn what is working and patterns they are in. If you're coming in to Fish the lake Jim will save you a lot time. Not only did we catch fish. I come away with a new friend. PS, Miss Bell likes peanut butter crackers.

And he put me on my personal best on artificial I spent a few days fishing with Captain Jim the week of July 27th through August 2nd and man was it a blast! I came down to the Big G for my vacation not really expecting anything like what happened fishing with Jim! It was enough to get me to come back down and fish with him again the next weekend though! During these dog days of summer with real feel temps of 105+ and water temps of around 90 and more you don't really expect to go on the water and have the greatest of days no matter where you are fishing! However, with the knowledge Jim has on the lake and know how of when and where the big ones are going to be, we managed to sack around 20-26 pounds in our best five each day we fished together! And he put me on my personal best on artificial, so you can't beat that! This man knows his stuff and can put you on em'! Not only is Jim an awesome guide and a pretty cool guy to fish with, he is a class act! Not being from around the area and not having any clue what goes on in the area; Jim showed me a couple cool tackle stores, some awesome places around town to eat, and a few local hangouts! He definitely made me feel more at home which isn't something you get out of your every day guide service! I will definitely be making another trip back to fish with him soon when the big girls really are chewing! If you want to go out and have a good time on the water while having a good shot at your personal best sack of fish or personal best fish of a lifetime, I would suggest giving Captain Jim a call!

My son and I booked captain Mike on a last minute request when our other guide cancelled our trip(on another lake). Mike was communicative, prompt and friendly. We had a great time on the water and he put us on fish right away. It was a tough day for fishing and we were able to put ‘em in the boat for a most of the of the day. We had more than 20 on the boat before noon. We would recommend captain Mike we had a blast.
We also loved that Mike fished with us. Not all guides do that. It was great to reference what he was doing while we were fishing along side of him! Go with Mike you won’t regret it.

Best trip anyone can ever have, again many great memories made. He always is very helpful on all your fishing needs. We caught or 70 bass, 2 were 7 pounders, several 4 and 5 pounders. We were fishing lipless crank baits and man were they crushing them. He will supply you with everything you need to catch'm, all you need is time to enjoy, relax, and make great memories.
The weather was crazy that day, 65 degrees that morning with lite rain and 45 degrees after lunch. You can tell by looking how we were dressed. But the fishing was HOT🎣🎣.

Had a ton of fun on the ride! When no more fish were biting he’d redirect us to a place full. Belle was super sweet and really helped me with my fear of the water. 10/10 would recommend.

Great day with GBGs Great day with GBGs, excellent knowledge, customer service and gear. Best day bass fishing my son Beau and I ever had. Record number and PB bass for Beau of 7lb 15oz. A large number were over 4lbs. Great job getting us on the fish and making the day fun and educational with a little humor mixed in. Highly recommend GBGs, we will be back. We'll worth the drive from Wisconsin.

I"m going to start out by thanking my girlfriend (Angela) for booking this trip for me. Captain Jim was very accommodating with her and took his time to explain the different packages he has to offer. She had no clue as to what to choose for me, but Captain Jim took his time with her and came up with a great option. I had originally planned to bring my son with me, but at the last minutes he could not go, so my brother was the lucky go to person. Captain Jim took care of making the hotel reservation and also provided us with a great BBQ lunch.
Our day of fishing started bright and early 6:15 am. Jim was already waiting for us with the boat already in the water. We launched off and went to the first spot. We were provided with all the equipment needed to go fishing (rods, reels) on a new Triton boat. Everything was top notch! First spot landed a 7 pound fish... WOW! I don't see those in the lake I fish. We quickly moved on fishing several different spots throughout the day. Fishing was a challenge that day due to the high winds, But that didn't phase Captain Jim. He is a true professional. He just pushed on locating the fish.

Went out with Scott on Sunday and had a blast!!!! Took my father-in-law for his first largemouth ever and was not disappointed. Fishing with Scott who we had never met before was like fishing with a friend we've known for 20 years. We will be back! Scott is the best guide on the water!

Captain Mike was fantastic. He was there with the boat ready at 5am. We got right to catching fish. 4 hours went by real quick with non stop action. Whenever I fish Guntersville I’m contacting Mike from now on.
