We’re excited to welcome a true legend of the sport to the Guntersville Bass Guides team—Captain Derek Remitz, one of the most respected names in bass fishing and a fierce competitor who’s no stranger to the winner’s circle.
Derek cemented his place in bass fishing history as the very first angler to win a Bassmaster Elite Series event, making a statement in his rookie season by following that victory with a second-place finish in the very next event. He went on to qualify for the Bassmaster Classic three times and holds one of the sport’s rare honors: the Bassmaster Century Belt, earned by catching over 100 pounds across four days of competition.
After retiring from the pro tour, Derek made Guntersville his home and quickly became one of the most consistent and respected local sticks. He’s racked up multiple wins on Lake Guntersville, demonstrating the same calm confidence and technical mastery that made him elite. Whether he’s picking apart shallow grass or dialing in on deep structure—especially if he can throw a big plug—Derek knows how to locate and catch big bass, no matter the season.
Beyond fishing, Derek is also a proud father to his son Austen. That same patience and focus he brings to the water shines through in his family life, and it’s part of what makes him such a grounded and trusted guide on the boat.
Starting soon, Derek will offer 6- and 8-hour guided trips exclusively on Tuesdays through Fridays, giving anglers the chance to fish with someone who’s been at the very top of the sport and still has a fire for finding and catching fish.
