Late October Bite Ramps Up — Cooler Water & Bigger Bass
We’re closing out October on Lake Guntersville with improving quality and strong numbers. Cooler nights and mild days have dropped the water temps, and the bass are responding. They’re chasing, feeding, and showing up in force. Schooling activity has been wild to watch, and topwater is king — the Whopper Plopper continues to produce explosive strikes all week long.
Guide Round-Up
Captain Myles
Captain Myles had one of those fun, steady days that remind you why you fish Guntersville — great clients, great attitudes, and plenty of bass in the boat. When that kind of energy meets his drive to keep rods bent, the results are exactly what folks hope for when they book a trip.
Captain Myles: another high-spirited day and a pile of bites.
Captain Phillip
Captain Phillip kept his streak alive this week, again exceeding expectations for returning client Peter and crew. The action barely slowed during their four-hour trip — one of those mornings where everything lined up and the fish never got a break.
Captain Phillip: non-stop action for returning guests.
Crappie Fishing Update
Captain Scott and Capt. Jim spent time dialing in Scott’s updated Lowrance electronics (Advanced Sonar Classes). After a few tweaks, the Active Target picture was eye-opening — crisp detail and clean separation that make picking out crappie a breeze.
Forward-facing sonar, tuned up and ready — those are crappie.
Scott lived up to his reputation as the Crappie Whisperer — fish after fish. The October flurry eased from 60–90 per trip down to about 30–45, but transition schools are forming and the next surge is close. Now’s a smart time to book with the lake’s two best crappie guides before it lights up again.

Looking Ahead — November on Guntersville
November is when the grass thins, bass become exposed, and they feed hard before winter. It’s a short window, but an incredible one. If you remember when Capt. Jim and Steve won the Alabama Bass Trail 100 in November, that win came from reading this exact transition.
For anglers chasing trophy-class bass, our specialty-style trips lean into big-fish strategy — the same mindset that wins tournaments. As temps continue to drop, bass will feed aggressively before sliding to winter zones. It’s one of the best windows of the year to fish with a guide who stays a step ahead.
If you’ve been waiting for the right time, this is it. The lake’s cooling down, the fish are heating up, and Guntersville Bass Guides™ is ready to show you what November fishing is all about.
