Lake Guntersville Fishing Report — October 12, 2025
This week’s full breakdown from the Guntersville Bass Guides™ team — tournaments, water trends, and what’s working now.
This week on Lake Guntersville was packed, with two major events running at the same time: the first-ever Ultimate Angler Championship (188 anglers, Thu–Sat) and the Big Bass Tour (≈600 boats, Thu–Sun). Congratulations to our friend Tucker Smith for winning Ultimate Angler, and hats off to the Big Bass Tour’s 7.62-lb top fish — solid given the conditions.
Pressure + Weather = Finicky Fish (Morning Still Wins)
Heavy tournament pressure, a full moon, and several days of ENE wind tightened the bite. Night lows in the 50s cooled the lake roughly 8°, pushing a classic fall transition: fish are present, but selective. The morning window has been the steadiest. Early in the week some areas produced 20–30 bites, then went quiet by Saturday — typical October.
We believe we’ve touched the bottom of the transition; from here, expect a steady upswing into some of the most fun fall fishing of the year. Track the slide on our Lake Guntersville Water Temperature Trends.
Capt. Scott — Steady, Work-Focused, Dialed In
Capt. Scott was our workhorse this week. When the bite turned finicky, he stayed methodical — matching forage size, fine-tuning retrieve speed, and adjusting casting angles until fish committed. He takes real pride in his guiding and excels at finding the small niches that turn tough windows into productive ones. If you want a trip where the plan is measured, clear, and consistent, Scott will have it wired.
Capt. Phillip — Crappie Season Off to an Early Start
Capt. Phillip has been running early-season Lake Guntersville crappie trips, and it’s shaping up to be a strong fall. Cooler nights have the fish in a steady feeding rhythm, and clients are already enjoying quality slabs and relaxed, light-tackle action. If you’ve been waiting for a fun, family-friendly trip, the window is open.
Capt. Jim & Landry — Big-Bass Streak Stays Hot
Capt. Jim welcomed back Landry, who kept his big-bass streak alive with another strong Lake Guntersville fish. The kid has a feel for this lake; we won’t be surprised when a double-digit shows up in his tally.

Daytime highs in the mid-80s and nights in the 50s–60s will keep the fall slide on track. Expect more topwater at daybreak, then a shift to moving baits over grass edges and finesse as the sun climbs.
The Bite: What’s Going On Right Now
This week has been classic fall Lake Guntersville — fish are there, but they’re selective. When you hit the right windows, the size and numbers show up. If you’re not checking the super-shallow stuff, you’re missing some of the biggest bites on the lake. There’s also a strong mid-depth bite when you put the correct presentation in front of them.
What’s producing:
- Frogs in the right water early — great commitment bites.
- Walking baits and Whopper Plopper–style topwaters during active windows.
- Texas-rigged soft plastics have saved multiple trips once the sun gets up.
- We’ve added a new confidence bait that’s quietly producing big fish — keeping that one under wraps for now.
Where & how (big-picture guidance):
- Super-shallow windows are real — cover water, then slow down where you get follows or short strikes.
- Mid-depth schools are active if you know what to throw; make the first pass count.
- Current and wind direction set the lanes; let them tell you how fast to fish.
- Grass type and structure transitions are the puzzle pieces — edges matter.
Bottom line: small adjustments are everything right now — cadence, angle, and profile. That’s what’s turning finicky bites into fish in the boat.
Outlook: Next Week on Guntersville
Daytime highs in the mid-80s with nights in the 50s–60s will keep the fall slide on track and push a steadier feed. Expect:
- Early topwater to stay strong — walking baits, frogs, and Plopper-style lures at daybreak.
- Shad pushes on wind-blown edges; watch for brief flurries and capitalize fast.
- Grass-edge routes to firm up as water trends down — work through fast and stay mobile.
- Texas-rig or other finesse after the sun climbs to keep bites coming.
