Heat, Better Quality, And Guntersville Bass Starting To Set Up
This week on Lake Guntersville started off a lot like the last few weeks. A whole bunch of bass, a lot of two to three pound fish, rods staying bent, and clients having a good time.
Then somewhere around midweek, things changed.
Not bad. Just different.
The numbers backed off some, but what replaced them got everybody’s attention. The quality got better, and it stayed that way through the weekend.
Now don’t get us wrong, there were a couple days this week where you flat out had to grind. No freebies. No rolling up and wearing them out on every stop. You had to make good decisions, stay patient, and trust what the lake was telling you.
But we still caught fish.
Bass. Crappie. And a whole lot of smiles.
The Team Had A Full Week
Honestly, watching this team work never gets old. These guys are machines. Different styles, different baits, different parts of the lake, but somehow everybody keeps figuring them out.
That is what makes team reports so powerful. One guide can only see so much water in a day, but when our guides are working across the lake all week, we get a much better picture of what Guntersville is really doing.
This week we had bass trips, crappie trips, tougher stretches, good windows, and some really healthy fish showing up at the right time.
Some weeks are easy to explain. This one was more like Guntersville showing little hints of what is coming next.
The Shad Spawn Is Still Hanging On
We are still seeing the tail end of a shad spawn deal, but it is getting short.
Maybe thirty minutes. Maybe.
After that there has usually been a little lull. Then things start setting back up and they will feed again.
But if we are being honest, this lake has been missing one key ingredient all week.
Heat.
The weather guessers missed it again, but here we are now on Sunday and she is finally starting to feel right. Nineties, warmer nights, and water temps finally acting like late May.
Keep an eye on our Lake Guntersville water temperature page because this next push of heat could change the bite fast.
We Are Starting To Poke Offshore
What has us really excited right now is what is coming next.
We have already started poking offshore some. Not a bunch of idling. Not a bunch of running around just because they oughta be there. Just checking the stuff that makes sense, staying close to where better fish have been showing up, and keeping tabs on what is changing.
Some days you catch a few doing it. Some days you do not.
That is normal this time of year.
But we got a feeling that is about to change.
If this heat sticks, and this rain forecast actually shows up, and TVA gives us some current, this place could get real right, real quick.
This Upcoming Week Could Get Right
This upcoming week has us fired up.
Not because we are guessing. Because the signs are starting to line up.
Heat. Water temp. Rain. Potential current.
That usually means one thing on Lake Guntersville this time of year.
Offshore bass.
And not finesse fishing either.
We are talking big deep diving crankbaits, magnum spoons, football jigs, big worms, heavy line, long casts, and bites that about jerk the rod out of your hand.
The kind of fishing where you may not get fifty bites, but the right five can make your whole week.
If you already have trips on the books, you may have timed this thing just right.
Crappie Trips Are Still Producing Too
It was not just bass this week. Our crappie trips stayed busy too, and those boats kept putting fish in front of clients.
That is one of the good things about Lake Guntersville right now. Whether somebody wants to chase bass, spend a day crappie fishing, or put together a mixed trip when the schedule allows, there are options.
