Current, Shad Spawn, And A Whole Lot Of Bass On Guntersville
This week on Lake Guntersville has been a lot of the same, and right now that is a good thing. We had some weather move through, the lake got some current again, and that current kept the bass feeding hard.
Current makes a huge difference on Guntersville. When it gets right, the bait gets moving, the fish get positioned better, and the lake can go from decent to flat out fun in a hurry.
We are still dealing with a shad spawn in the mornings, and it has actually gotten better lately with better quality showing up around it. That morning deal has been a big part of the story, but it is not the only way our guides are catching them.
On a short 4 hour to 6 hour trip, we are seeing a lot of days in that 35 to 50 bass range. That is getting after them. That is not just a decent little bite. That is a phenomenal time to be here for a Lake Guntersville bass fishing trip.
Current Has The Bass Fired Up
The biggest thing we saw again this week was how much current helps this lake. When they are pulling water, it makes the bait act right, and it makes the bass easier to read.
Lake Guntersville can still make you work. It is not every cast, every place, all day long. But when the current gets right and the fish start feeding, it can get real good in a hurry.
That is why paying attention to the lake matters so much. The Lake Guntersville water temperature, the current, the wind, the bait, and the time of day all matter right now. One little change can make a place that looked dead come alive.
This is also why fishing with guides who are on the water every day helps. We are not guessing from the bank. We are watching what the lake is doing, adjusting with it, and trying to keep our clients around active bass.
When Guntersville gets current and the bait starts moving, the whole lake can get mean in a hurry.
The Morning Shad Spawn Is Still A Player
The shad spawn is still part of the deal in the mornings, and lately it has had better quality mixed into it. That has helped get trips started right and has given clients some fast action early.
The interesting part is what happens after that morning shad spawn starts slowing down. That is where you have to decide how you want to catch them next.
Some of our guides are throwing crankbaits. Some are throwing spinnerbaits. Some are still throwing worms. Some are throwing topwater frogs. That means we have the spectrum of lures covered here at Guntersville Bass Guides™.
The best part is that one bait does not have to carry the whole day. You can take what worked the day before, mix in what the lake is telling you now, and build a day around what the bass are actually doing.
High Numbers And A Few Big Ones That Got Away
We have had some mishaps too. We are not going to point any fingers or mention any names, but there may have been three really big ones lost in one trip. Cough cough, hint hint.
That is fishing. Everybody who has spent enough time on Guntersville knows that some of the ones you remember the longest are the ones that almost made it to the boat.
The good news is the numbers have been strong enough that those missed big ones have not ruined the day. When you are catching 35 to 50 bass on shorter trips, everybody stays in the game.
That is what makes this a great window for guided bass fishing trips on Lake Guntersville. You can bring somebody who just wants action, and you can still have enough better fish mixed in to keep serious anglers fired up.
Fish Now, Pay Later For Families And Groups
We are going to keep talking about this because it can help people who have been wanting to take a trip but do not want to pay the whole amount at one time.
After The Morning Bite, You Better Have A Plan
After the shad spawn ends every morning, you can almost feel the lake ask you what you are going to do next. That has been the decision point.
Do you stay shallow? Do you start checking the edges? Do you pick up something moving? Do you slow down? Do you go looking for the next group of fish before everybody else figures it out?
The bass have had a lot to say about that. You can go back to what worked the day before, but if you are not mixing in something new and paying attention, Guntersville can leave you behind.
That has been a good formula this week. Start with what has been producing, then let the lake tell you how much to change. When the bite is good, you still have to make the right decisions.
The Heat Could Make This Bite Even Better
Looking ahead, it looks like we are going to get some heat back into the South. That could push more bass toward deeper areas and make the next transition start showing up stronger.
If we keep some current with that heat, things could get real spicy. These 35 to 50 fish days could turn into 60 to 80 fish days, and on the right day, somebody might mess around and see a 100 fish kind of trip.
We are not saying every day will be that. This is still fishing. But with the numbers we are already seeing, the water warming, the bait moving, and current helping the lake set up, you definitely want to be in on this action.
This is the time of year where Lake Guntersville can change quick. One week you are talking shad spawn and shallow action, and the next week you are talking current, deeper groups, ledges, grass edges, and those early summer feeding windows.
Our Guides Are Covering A Lot Of Water
We are still building this report around what Guntersville Bass Guides is doing as a team. That matters because one guide can only see so much water in a day, but a team that is working can see a lot more.
This week our guides have had clients catching fish on different patterns, different sections of the lake, and different presentations. That is exactly why the company approach works. The lake does not have to fit one man’s favorite way to fish.
If you want to fish with Captain Jim, Capt. Scott Jernigan, Capt. Phillip Criss, Capt. Myles Murray, or Capt. Derek Remitz, you are still booking through Guntersville Bass Guides™ and getting the benefit of a team that stays active on Lake Guntersville.
That helps with family trips, serious fishing trips, tournament prep, electronics training, and those anglers who just want the best chance at a good day on Guntersville.
Tournament Prep And Electronics Trips Still Matter
We also continue to offer tournament prep and electronics trips. Those are not always the trips we show the most online because there is a lot of information there that does not need to be handed to everybody watching from the sidelines.
Tournament prep is different. It is about understanding what the lake is doing, which areas have potential, what should be left alone, and how to make better decisions when it counts.
Our electronics trips are still a big part of what we do too. Forward facing sonar, mapping, side imaging, grass, bait, structure, and fish positioning all matter more when you understand what you are looking at.
That is why we offer our Advanced Sonar Fish Finding Classes with Captain Jim. A lot of anglers own good electronics, but they still need help turning those screens into better decisions.
See More Real 2026 Fishing Photos
We are still going to keep our reports built around real trips and real fish. That matters. These are not stock pictures, old pictures, or some made up story about what should be happening.
This report is based on what our guides and clients are seeing on Lake Guntersville right now. The bite has been strong, the numbers have been good, and the next transition could make things even more interesting.
If you want to see more from this season, our 2026 photo page is a good place to look. It shows the kind of action our clients have been having on guided bass fishing trips with Guntersville Bass Guides™.

While Guntersville keeps us busy down south, Erie Walleye Guides is already putting together some incredible trips up north. Here is a quick look at one of their most recent outings.
