The beginning of April has brought steady fishing, unpredictable weather, and some great memories on Lake Guntersville. The wind has been relentless—blowing nearly every day we’ve been on the water—but that hasn’t stopped us from putting fish in the boat and having a blast doing it.
This week was special. I had the chance to reconnect and fish with Kris & Anita—old friends I used to fish with over 20 years ago back in Ohio. It’s been a long time coming, and sharing the deck again brought back a lot of good memories.
When we weren’t guiding trips, we were running electronics classes. It’s always a great feeling watching anglers have that “aha!” moment when everything starts to click. Learning how to read what’s beneath you makes a huge difference, and it’s rewarding to help folks get there.
Water Temps & Spawning Activity
Water temperatures are on the rise, and that’s driving a lot of the current fishing behavior. You can see the daily temperature progress here:
We’re starting to see the stages split wide open—pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn are all happening, depending on where you’re fishing and what time of day. That means you’ve got to keep moving, keep adapting, and be ready for anything.
What We’re Throwing
The wind made it tough to lock in a consistent presentation this week, so our bait selection was kind of all over the place. We threw just about everything—adjusting to conditions and trying different approaches to keep rods bent.
That said, one bait in particular stood out for producing better-than-average fish. It’s something a little different than the usual springtime go-tos, and it’s been a breath of fresh air. Want to know what it is? You’ll have to hop in the boat with us to find out! BOOK YOUR FISHING TRIP
Redcrest on Guntersville
It’s been an exciting week with Major League Fishing’s Redcrest Championship in town. Seeing all the wrapped boats and pros out on the water added a cool energy to the lake. They’ve been respectful, focused, and dialed in—which is great to see.
And yes—we’re quietly pulling for the Lane brothers. Chris Lane, the hometown favorite, and Bobby Lane, though not from Guntersville, have both been in the mix. Fingers crossed they can finish one and two.

What to Expect Next Week
Looking ahead, we’ve got more rain on the way, which means increased current. That might push some of the bedding fish around a bit, but it’s also going to start funneling post-spawners into transition areas. We’re watching for staging zones between spawning grounds and summer hangouts, and current is going to help us dial that in.
Also, with a full moon approaching, we expect to see another wave of fish moving up. It’s setting up for a fun stretch over the next 7 to 10 days. Expect a mix of aggressive pre-spawners, active bed fish, and those just slipping off into deeper water.
Whether you’re looking to learn more about sonar or just get in on some solid spring bass fishing, we’ve got you covered.
