From Shallow Grass to Gritty Guitar Riffs, Guntersville’s Still Producing
We’ve been stacking up 40–50 fish days out here lately. Now, they’re not all giants, but when you’re catching fish and having fun, you can’t complain. The bass are showing a lot of transitional behavior right now — they’re not fully locked into the summer ledge bite just yet. We’re seeing them pause on secondary spots, move around mid-depth, and bounce between shallow grass and offshore structure.
There are definitely schools out deep, but getting them to fire consistently? That’s been a chore. A combination of pressure and timing. Some days it feels like you’ve just got to live right to catch a good one out deep.

Learn How It WorksGrass Game Still Getting It Done
So we’ve stayed shallow and leaned into what’s been working: fishing grass. It’s been steady. For every 10 we land, one of them is pushing 4 pounds or better. The bigger ones are still scattered, but the signs are good — we’ve had plenty of instances where a hooked bass gets chased to the boat by four or five others.
The grass growth this year looks great, too. I’m already thinking ahead to fall — we could be setting up for a serious “cheese” bite with frogs. That’s when the grass mats get thick, die, and float — forming those hollowed-out spots underneath where the big girls love to hide. Some anglers are already catching them on frogs, but that bite’s taken a beating lately with the amount of pressure out here.
Weather, Pressure & Electronics Work
We’ve had cloudy, rainy weather that’s kept things cooler — which means more anglers are staying out longer. The pressure isn’t letting up anytime soon, and as long as the fish keep cooperating, neither will the crowds.
On the electronics training front, we’re still running sonar classes. Schools are showing up on the screen, and it’s been a perfect time for anglers to learn how to read them the right way. Sometimes you catch one, maybe two, and then it’s time to move — but when you see it all unfold live, you really start to understand bass behavior.

Rockstars & Rods – Mohawk Mayhem on the Lake
One of this week’s highlights was taking out the lead singer of Johnny Mohawk & the Assassins, along with his wife, the bass player (my good buddy Gary), and Gary’s wife Stephanie. Let me tell you, Stephanie was on fire — catching bass and throwing jabs at Gary while he and Johnny floated behind us in their boat. You can spot them lurking in the background of a few pics if you look close. 😂

Meet the TeamFather’s Day Bassin’ – David & Dad Back on the Water
Also had David and his dad out for a Father’s Day gift trip. David’s no stranger to Guntersville — he was with me back in March during one of the best days of the year.
This time, the bite was steady again — not quite March madness, but they put together a solid day with a few quality fish and plenty of 2.5-pounders to keep it fun.

Forecast & Final Word
This week we’re expecting less rain, a little more heat, and continued pressure. The bait is split — some shallow, some out — but with water temps holding and grass looking good, we’re keeping the shallow game ready. I just don’t see these fish abandoning that grass to go sit on ledges and get hammered all day.
