Guntersville showed out again this week, and it was all about doubles and triples. That kind of action in late July, with 30+ fish per trip, says two things:
our guides are on top of their game, and the lake is as healthy as it’s ever been.
We had a light north breeze most days, which took the edge off the summer heat and made for comfortable fishing conditions.
For anyone who loves both golf and fishing, we don’t mind setting up trips around tee times—come fish Lake Guntersville and still make your afternoon round of golf.
Tournament Prep with Capt. Derek Remitz
We hosted a tournament prep trip with Capt. Derek Remitz this week. While we’re keeping our client’s name private until after his event, his text summed it up perfectly:
“That was a great trip today.” Derek reported multiple solid patterns, several fish in the 5‑pound range, and four different techniques that all produced.
If you want to sharpen your tournament game—especially for vegetation flipping and frog work—Derek is your guy. His history as a
Bassmaster Elite Series champion speaks for itself, and he can help you break down any lake for competition-level success.

Capt. Phillip – Doubles & Triples with the Toones
Capt. Phillip had a great week highlighted by a trip with longtime clients, the Toone family. The pictures told the story: doubles, triples, and plenty of laughs. If this were baseball, they would’ve lit up the scoreboard.
We didn’t get an exact number of fish caught, but this trip likely topped the week in total action. Corporate and group trips like this are a big part of what we do, and when you mix in returning families like the Toones, the energy is just different—it’s pure fun.
Capt. Scott – A Fun, Aggressive Bite
Capt. Scott’s trip this week focused on a pattern we’re keeping under wraps for now, but the results spoke loud: lots of bites, lots of action, and a lot of laughs. One fish even inhaled the bait so deep it looked like lunch—but it swam away healthy after release. Some bites you just have to experience in person.
Texas Youth Archery Champion – Second Visit
Returning for his second trip to Guntersville, a young archery target champion and his buddy Dax put on a clinic. Levi went on a streak of catching one every cast, and later Dax matched him fish for fish. Their numbers were great and they stuck some solid fish—five-pounders for the kids.
On day two, the dads joined in with a little friendly competition. They managed to out-fish the kids in total numbers but topped out with a few over four pounds. That contrast says it all—Guntersville will humble you one day and reward you the next. Weather played a big role: the kids had cloudy skies and a steady breeze, while the dads had slick, high bluebird skies.
Current Patterns & Seasonal Forecast
– Shallow Grass Bite: We’re starting shallow in scattered grass using popping-style frogs. If you find hard bottom with good hydrilla (not fully matted), you’ll get quality bites.
– Ledge Rotation: A big football jig in 14–18 feet can also produce, but knowing which ledges are hot is key.
Looking ahead, the weather should stay stable, maybe even a bit cooler, which means the bite will keep improving as fish transition toward thick vegetation and more bait. That sets up a phenomenal late summer leading into fall—perfect for planning lodging and fishing packages or even taking advantage of our Fish Now, Pay Later program.

Special Update – Delta McKenzie Pro Am Archery
Just got word from the road—those young archery anglers turned competitors
got it done!
Levi took first place in the match and secured another points championship title,
while Dax put together a strong finish of second place at the match and second overall in points.
These two have been serious archery competitors long before we ever met them,
and this weekend’s results are just another reminder of how consistent and driven they are in competition—on and off the water.
