The rain has finally let up around Lake Guntersville and the summer heat is kicking in. Earlier in the week, things felt normal — we were catching 30 to 40 fish each morning. But when the sun came back and the humidity rose, the bite started to shift. We had another mayfly hatch — and while these hatches can disrupt predictable patterns, they also stir things up in a good way when you know how to adjust.
We’ve been running both crappie fishing trips and guided bass trips on Lake Guntersville. It’s been a fun stretch — mornings starting with solid bass, and the crappie crew absolutely lighting it up. One of the more memorable days came with an up-and-coming TikToker and his family. They fished hard, caught a pile of bass, and we had some good laughs talking about life on the app. Check out his channel here.

Captain Phillip had a heck of a trip on what’s been the hottest day of the year so far. A father-and-son duo spent the day catching both largemouth bass and crappie — when one slowed down, they pivoted to the other. It turned into a full-day, multi-species smash-fest. Captain Phillip continues to be one of the hardest working guides on the lake. We’re lucky to have him and the rest of the team here at Guntersville Bass Guides.
Bass have been busting shad on top throughout the day — explosive topwater strikes that should be lights-out, but the floating eelgrass is causing issues. It clings to treble-hooked baits and ruins casts if you don’t land clean. Efficiency matters, especially with so much fishing pressure on Lake Guntersville. Even during the week, boat traffic is heavy. The fact that we’re consistently putting up solid numbers and size is a testament to both the skill of our guides and the overall health of this fishery.
🌡️ Curious About the Water Temps?
The TVA has been pulling steady current and water temperatures are slowly rising again after last week’s storm dropped them 3 degrees. Stay current with our real-time Lake Guntersville water temperature tracker.

Looking ahead: with the Fourth of July coming fast, trips are starting to book up. Most of our last-minute requests are still doable thanks to our full crew of five guides, but we always recommend booking ahead.

The bite should improve even more as the summer heat stabilizes. It’s already starting to happen. We’ve noticed better fish and tighter windows. If you can handle the heat, the rewards are there — big bass, grouped up, and willing to eat.
