Gobble Gobble — Thanksgiving Week Fishing Report
Gobble gobble — the week of Thanksgiving didn’t disappoint on Lake Guntersville. The bass were hungry just like everybody else at the dinner table, and finally things started getting right.
The size is coming on, the numbers are already good, and that cold snap we needed finally showed up. Water temps are dropping and getting stable — all the stuff that should’ve happened two or three weeks ago. If you’re curious where things are sitting, you can always keep an eye on the Guntersville water temps page.
Capt. Phillip — Birthday Trip to Remember
This week we had the honor of being part of a surprise birthday present. A young man wanted nothing more than to go fishing on Lake Guntersville for his birthday. His mom reached out wanting to pull off a trip for him because that’s all he wants to do — and that’s exactly what happened.
Capt. Phillip was the man for the job. It didn’t take long before the fish started coming over the rail. The birthday boy started catching bass early in the trip and just kept catching. One after another, just steady action the whole time.
Mom got in on it too. Rods were bending, fish were going in the net, and you could see how much it meant to both of them to share that time on the water together. It had that “this is exactly what we hoped for” feel from start to finish.
The weather lined up, the fish cooperated, and the cameras stayed busy. Our job on days like that is simple: keep them on fish and let the memories take care of themselves. Birthdays on Guntersville tend to stick with you for a long time.
If you’ve ever thought about doing something like this for your own kids, grandkids, or family, you can set it up the same way his mom did — pick a date on our online booking page or grab a certificate and let them choose the date later.
For folks traveling in from out of town for a birthday or holiday trip, our Lodging on Lake Guntersville page has some options that are set up with anglers in mind. Places that understand boats, trailers, and early mornings make everything easier.
Black Friday & Cyber Monday — Almost Wrapped Up
As this report goes live, we’re at the tail end of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday special. We don’t run sales all the time, so if you’ve been thinking about grabbing a gift certificate or getting a trip on the books at a discount, this is the window.
Some folks grab them for spring bass trips. Others use them for fall crappie when things get silly on the bridges. However you use it, it’s a simple way to lock in a future trip.

Capt. Scott — 64 Bass and Left Them Biting
Now let’s talk about Capt. Scott and one of those trips you tell stories about for a while. These guys flat-out caught them. The bite started fairly quick, and once they got rolling, it never really slowed down.
When they hit around that 30-fish mark, Scott told them, “We’re not quitting until we hit 50.” That’s the kind of challenge you don’t mind hearing when the rods are already loaded up.
And sure enough, they pushed right past it. The final tally was 64 bass for the day. At that point one of the guys finally said, “I’m done,” and that was the sign to ease off — even with fish still firing.
They literally left them biting. Just a flat-out good day. Classic Scott — calm, steady, never making a big deal out of it, but the results speak for themselves. Late fall can line up just right when the weather finally does what it’s supposed to do.
This time of year some folks like to mix it up — a bass trip one day and a crappie trip the next — so they can see two totally different sides of the lake while the water’s cooling down.
Cold Weather Is Here — Is Your Heat Ready?
With the cold finally settling in around north Alabama, it’s not just the bass making adjustments — it’s your heater too. A lot of folks don’t think about it until the first really cold morning, and that’s usually when something decides not to work.
If your heater hasn’t been serviced, isn’t running quite right, or you just want to make sure it’s ready for winter, we highly recommend our friends at Alabama Preferred Heating & Cooling. They support bass fishing around Lake Guntersville and put money back into the local community.
Whether you need a tune-up, a check-up, or a full look-over before the real cold hits, they’re the ones to call. Get the house squared away so you can focus on planning your next day on the lake.

The Next 2–3 Weeks Should Be Lights Out
The next couple of weeks should be lights out on Lake Guntersville. Our captains are dialed in on both crappie and bass. The fish have the feed bag on, the temps are right, and this late-fall window doesn’t last long — it only sets up like this once a year.
