LAKE GUNTERSVILLE FISHING REPORT
Madness of March 2026 begins today.
And honestly, it already started.
This past week felt like March even though the calendar still said February. We started seeing bigger fish grouped up early in the mornings. Then we watched them spread out during the day, but not everywhere. In very specific little zones.
Then that afternoon deal started showing itself. Certain little places on flats start loading up. Not 1 fish. Not 2. Groups.
It is only a matter of time before we are catching multiple 7+ pounders in a day.
We are already seeing at least 1 big one a day, sometimes bigger. Plenty of 4s. Several 5s. The lake is moving the right way, and the week ahead has us excited.
WHAT MADNESS OF MARCH REALLY MEANS
We have been calling it Madness of March since 2013.
Not because it sounds catchy.
Because it was the only way to describe what was happening.
In March of 2013, we had days that did not feel real. Big fish. Big numbers. Big moments, back to back to back.
1 day we caught 10 fish over 7 pounds.
Another day we landed 3 right around 10 pounds. 9-12, 9-14, and 9-09. And we lost 1 that was the same caliber.
There was no other way to describe it.
It was March.
It was madness.
So that is what we named it.
Today is March 1. It is officially kicked off. Captain Jim has been waiting on this month for the last 11 months, and everyone who understands Guntersville knows why.
THIS PAST WEEK ON GUNTERSVILLE
The team stayed busy, and it has been good.
Conditions were not ideal early in the week. We had a cool down that hit them hard, and you could feel it in that first part of the day.
But as the week progressed and the lake stabilized again, it got right back to doing what it is supposed to do this time of year.
Short trips have been solid on numbers. It has been common to catch 19 to 22 fish on a shorter window when we line it up right, and they are solid Guntersville bass.
Longer days are pushing into the 40s on quantity. That matters because it tells you the lake is not just giving you 1 flurry and going dead. There are multiple bite windows, and when you chase them correctly, you can stay in fish all day.
THE DAILY RHYTHM RIGHT NOW
The days have a rhythm.
We start off on fire. Pull up and start catching them early.
Once that first group is wore out, we fish around and pick 1 here and there while we watch the lake and make decisions.
Then there is a mid to late morning lull. That is when you grind, adjust, rotate, and let the lake tell you what it is giving you.
Late morning into afternoon, it usually turns back on. That afternoon deal is real. When those little special areas on flats start loading up, it can go from slow to lights out fast.
PRESENTATIONS THAT ARE PRODUCING
We are running a couple presentations that are staples for this time of year, and they are doing exactly what they should.
We also have 1 thing that is a little different right now, and it has been a difference maker when the morning gets tight and you need to scrape 1 here and there while you wait on the next window.
Rotation is the key:
- Hit the early group while it is active
- Rotate and hunt during the lull
- Be positioned for late morning and afternoon
- Pay attention to the little areas on flats that start loading up
This is not autopilot fishing. When it gets right, it feels easy. When it is in between, you earn it.
THE LAKE PRESSURE WAS REAL THIS WEEKEND
This weekend was busy. Busy like we rarely see it.
There were multiple tournaments running across the lake, including the Alabama Bass Trail and other events that had the lake stacked up with boats.
It was the busiest I think we have ever seen Lake Guntersville, and that is coming from all of us captains because we were all out there watching it in real time.
And we still caught them.
CAPTAINS TRIP HIGHLIGHTS
CAPT JIM | TRIP HIGHLIGHT
Here are some catches out of Captain Jim’s boat from this past week.
Timing has been huge. Early groups are ready to eat. There is a mid morning lull that forces you to rotate and stay patient. Then late morning into afternoon, the lake reloads and it can happen fast.
That is exactly why March on Guntersville is dangerous in a good way. When those windows line up, it is rarely a small fish.
CAPT PHILLIP | TRIP HIGHLIGHT
Here are some catches out of Captain Phillip’s boat from this week.
With the lake packed and pressure everywhere, Phillip stayed on the right areas and kept his clients in fish throughout the week.
CAPT MYLES | TRIP HIGHLIGHT
Here are some catches out of Captain Myles’ boat from today.
Myles did what he always does. He handled business.
CAPT DEREK REMITZ | TRIP HIGHLIGHT
Captain Derek guided for us this week as well, and his clients were on quality fish.
Derek brings a rare level of competitive experience to a guide trip. A Bassmaster Elite Series champion whose career has been defined by performance, precision, and consistency.
That kind of experience translates directly on Lake Guntersville, from decision making to timing, and it gives clients an opportunity to learn and fish alongside one of the most proven anglers on the water.
WHAT WE EXPECT NEXT
Based on what we are seeing with water temperature, fish movement, and the way these bigger females are staging, we would not be surprised to see the first true signs of shallow activity showing by next weekend.
Even with the full moon right now, we expect a wave to get up there and start messing around. Cleaning off spots. Showing on those little white places. Some will spawn when mother nature says it is time.
This is just the beginning. There are still fish out in the middle of nowhere right now, ripening their eggs, waiting on the right temperature. When those waves start rolling, Guntersville becomes a different place.
March is here, and the lake is already showing the signs. Bigger fish grouped early. Afternoon windows getting stronger. Quality fish showing up every day.
If you have been thinking about a trip, this is the window.
