Late-Fall Guntersville, Starting to Settle In
Lake Guntersville has been a strange bird this fall, but it finally feels like she’s starting to stabilize. The fish have made some decisions on where they want to be for a while, and that’s what we’ve been waiting on. This is that late-fall to early-winter window on the Tennessee River where the lake can change overnight, so flexibility is everything.
This report covers last week’s fishing, when we had cold mornings starting around 29–32 degrees. Now we’re rolling into Christmas week with a forecast that includes some unusually warm days. That swing is exactly why the winter bite can be so good right now, but you have to fish what the lake is giving you and adjust as conditions change.
If you like tracking the trends without guessing, keep an eye on Lake Guntersville water temperatures. Water temps have moved around and we’ve seen signs of them starting to rise again, so we keep the approach open and let the lake tell us what’s real day by day.
A Young Angler Putting the Pieces Together
One of the best parts of last week was having a young angler like Huston in the boat. He understands competition, he’s picking up the fundamentals fast, and it’s fun watching it click. Weeks like this reward the anglers who pay attention to bait activity, water clarity, and where the fish are repositioning.
You could see it happen in real time. He started taking what Capt. Jim was teaching him, making small adjustments, then it started coming together. He was catching them good, and not by accident. That’s what we love to see on a guided bass fishing trip on Lake Guntersville.
Then, as it always seems to go, Dad had to outdo him with the big one of the day. Those are the moments that stick. That’s a core memory for a kid, and it’s why Lake Guntersville stays special.
Christmas Countdown
Holiday week is here. Early 2026 fishing is right around the corner.
2026 Dates Are Already Moving
As 2025 winds down, it’s been a strong year on Lake Guntersville. The lake looks healthy with numbers, quality, and vegetation that helps young bass grow. That sets up a really exciting early 2026, especially if you’re coming for trophy bass fishing and the best bite windows.
We’re already seeing calendars tighten. Some guides are filling up in March, and February starts getting pressure with tournament schedules. If Guntersville is on your radar, it pays to lock in dates early.

The Bite Last Week
Last week’s bite was consistent, but it did change during the week. The early cold pushed fish around, so we adjusted, found the right deal, and then it turned into the kind of day you hope for in December. The biggest key was staying around bait and letting the fish show you what they wanted.
We’re not going to spell out the exact baits. That stays with clients. What we can say is we expanded from a couple key presentations into four that produced quality bites. Once you’re around the right water and the right bait, it becomes a matter of execution.
We’ve been catching fish in two zones on opposite ends of the spectrum. That’s classic Lake Guntersville. When you stay around bait and commit to the right water, the rest gets simpler.
Lake Guntersville Crappie Fishing Is Stacked Up
Don’t overlook Lake Guntersville crappie fishing right now. They are stacked up, hungry, and big. We’ve even been catching crappie while bass fishing, and the size has been wild. It’s a good sign heading toward January and the true winter pattern.

The vegetation is still telling a story too. The grass is incredibly green. We picked up a piece floating that looked like it had been ripped up, and the color tells you everything you need to know. That kind of healthy grass can keep bait and fish in play longer than people expect.
One more note from last week: the bait can’t seem to make up its mind where it wants to live day-to-day. You have to stay around bait to get the most consistent bites. When you’re scanning and see bass around it, don’t hesitate. Throw at them. They will bite, and they’re usually solid fish.
