September 20 Fishing Report: Lake Guntersville Keeps Giving Us Options
Lake Guntersville did not completely change on us this week, and that is not a bad thing.
The fish are still using the grass, the bite continues to give us several ways to catch them, and both Capt. Jim and Capt. Phillip had another good week on the water.
The biggest development was finding another technique that started producing fish. We are not replacing everything we have been doing. We simply added another option, and during September that can make a big difference.
The lake can change during the course of a trip. Something that works early may slow down later, so having another productive way to adjust has been useful.
One More Way To Catch Them
Last week we talked about the fish getting into areas that made more sense for September. That part has continued.
This week we added another piece to the puzzle.
We started catching fish with a different technique that had not been a major part of the program before. It showed enough promise that it quickly earned a spot in the rotation.
That is exactly what we want this time of year. We do not want to leave the ramp with one bait tied on and hope the fish cooperate. We want enough options to react to what the lake is showing us.
Some Details Stay In The Boat
We will tell you that the new technique is working. We are not going to put every detail of it online. The anglers fishing with us get the complete version when the conditions call for it.
A Good Week With Familiar Faces And New Ones
This week had a little bit of everything.
We welcomed another group from Brazil to Lake Guntersville. This is the second time this year anglers have traveled from Brazil to fish with Guntersville Bass Guides™, and this was a completely different group from the first one.
It is pretty cool when you stop and think about how far people travel to come experience this lake.
We also got Mike from Kentucky back in the boat. Mike is a returning client, and those return trips mean a lot to us. There is something different about fishing with somebody who already knows the routine and has decided to come back and do it again.
Between the international visitors, returning clients and another strong stretch from Capt. Jim and Capt. Phillip, it was one of those weeks that reminds us there is a lot more to guiding than simply counting fish.
What Is Producing Right Now
We still have several presentations earning time on the deck.
Topwater
Topwater is still part of the program when the conditions give the fish a reason to look up.
ChatterBaits
ChatterBaits continue to be useful around grass when the bass are willing to react to a moving bait.
Texas Rig Worms
A Texas rig remains important when we need to slow down and spend more time in a productive stretch.
Another Option
The new technique gives us something different to show the fish when the more familiar presentations slow down.
Do Not Get Locked Into One Bait
The best approach right now is paying attention to how the fish are positioned and then choosing the presentation that fits the situation.
If You Have Been Thinking About A Fall Trip, Get It On The Calendar
September has been a little slower on the booking side than we would like, but the fishing itself is giving people plenty of reason to come.
The phone has started picking up again recently, and we expect interest in the fall dates to continue growing as October gets closer.
If you already know you want to fish Lake Guntersville this fall, there is no advantage in waiting until everybody else starts looking at the same dates.
We have fish being caught now, several productive approaches to work with and a guide team that can cover a lot of water.
A $100 deposit per fishing day secures your reservation.
Choose the length of trip that fits you, check the live calendar and lock in your date.
More Than One Boat Makes A Difference
One advantage of fishing with Guntersville Bass Guides™ is that the information does not come from just one boat.
Our captains are fishing different areas, seeing different groups of bass and comparing what they are learning throughout the week.
That matters on a lake the size of Guntersville. Something can be happening on one end of the lake that looks completely different somewhere else.
It also gives our clients more choices when it comes to finding an available date and getting paired with an experienced guide.
Another Good September Week On Lake Guntersville
This week did not need a dramatic change to make it a good one.
We found another way to catch them, welcomed anglers from Brazil, got a returning client from Kentucky back in the boat and watched Capt. Jim and Capt. Phillip continue putting fish in front of their clients.
That is a pretty solid week.
We will keep watching the lake, keep adjusting and keep sharing what we can as September rolls toward October.
If you want to see what Lake Guntersville is doing for yourself, we still have fall dates available.
